Our Story
Saving Hudson Dog Park: A Community Rally
In January 2026, the local dog-owning community faced a sudden setback: the park was temporarily closed due to a lapse in liability insurance. For a space that served as a daily routine and social anchor for dozens of local dogs and their families, the closure left a glaring void.
Stepping Up When It Counted
Rather than letting the closure become permanent, the community came together with remarkable speed. Dedicated neighbors mobilized to form the Friends of Hudson Dog Park, Inc.—a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to saving and sustaining the park.
Through rapid community fundraising and grassroots mobilization, the organization successfully raised the necessary funds to secure liability insurance. Thanks to the relentless, around-the-clock work of both the founding members and the newly elected Board of Directors, the park triumphantly reopened in just a few short weeks.
Sustaining the Park Every Single Day
What started as an emergency rescue mission quickly evolved into an enduring commitment to the town. Since reopening, the Friends of Hudson Dog Park has transformed how the space is cared for and operated:
Consistent Upkeep: Providing reliable, bi-weekly mowing and ongoing maintenance to keep the grounds in top shape.
Community Engagement: Organizing monthly community cleanup days that bring residents together to care for their shared neighborhood asset.
Improved Infrastructure: Adding clear, durable signage at each entrance gate so that all park rules are prominently posted and easy for visitors to follow.
Today, the Friends of Hudson Dog Park stands as a powerful testament to what a dedicated community can achieve when they refuse to let go of a space that brings them together.
